Electronic Terrain and Obstacle Database (e-TOD)

The IDS e-TOD software suite manages airport, terrain and obstacle data ensuring compliance with international quality requirements (ICAO Annex 15 up to Amendments 33, 34 and 36 and ICAO doc 9881). The e-TOD database provides data administration, reporting and processing functions for the modeling of airport areas and ICAO obstacle chart construction and delivery. Once validated by the e-TOD suite, data is shared among other IDS products such as flight procedure design (FPDAM), airspace design (Airspace Designer) and electromagnetic analysis systems (EMACS).

Four main modules make up e-TOD:

  • e-TOD Data Manager;
  • e-TOD Airport Data Analyzer;
  • e-TOD Obstacle Chart Builder;
  • e-TOD Obstacle Permission Manager.

These can be used with IDS’s Aeronautical Information Services system either together or separately.

Time saving:

  • Data loading for design purposes, from all possible accountable sources (including free sources on the internet as well as from certified data originators), does not require any conversion.
  • Easy import of the most commonly used formats available for terrain and human made obstacles (including DVOF, DOF, AIXM 5.1, UDDF, ICAO CRM, and user defined formats in ASCII, xml, csv, etc).
  • Airport mapping is easily imported using AMDB requirements.
  • Annex 4, 14 and 15 surfaces can be created in just a few minutes by loading aeronautical data from a survey project, from the central AIS database or from a what-if analysis.
  • A, B and PATC Obstacle charts can be created by collecting the surface data designed by the e-TOD ADA module, and merging the assessment results stored in the e-TOD database for a given effective date.

Safety:

  • The Eurocontrol Aeronautical Data Quality (ADQ) mandate requires aeronautical data to be validated, data transfer from external originators to the AIS department to be tracked and data modification to be logged for auditing purposes.
  • e-TOD allows data to be validated by merging terrain with human made obstacle data and checks that all the ICAO requiirements are satisfied for dissemination.
  • e-TOD also provides data export from the Data Manager module to other departments in standard formats (AIXM 5.1, ICAO CRM, etc).

Interoperability:

  • e-TOD is the only obstacle management system which is fully integrated in a complete AIS/AIM suite. The connection to AIXM databases for aeronautical data management, data dissemination, publishing and charting is ensured with no additional cost to the customer.
  • Full integration within the IDS suite of products enables the EUROCONTROL Aeronautical Data Quality (ADQ) mandate to be respected. The full design process, as stated in ICAO 9906, can be defined and all input and output data for each single step are tracked by PLX
  • The user can define via PLX (add link) the amount of attributes added by the obstacle management department prior the acceptance by other design / AIS department.

  • The airport layout can be used by the IDS EMACS suite in order to perform detailed electromagnetic (EM) performnce analysis of all different types of navaids.
  • The Obstacle Permission Manager allows safe data transfer from/to external data originators (Airport Authority, CAA, survey company, etc) and the obstacle management department.

  • e-TOD is continually updated ensuring that all calculations are in accordance with current criteria and applicable annexes and changes.
