The application is a feasibility study for the development of a high frequency (i.e. 25-50 GHz) Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR). Experimental activity addresses the evaluation of several design parameters: System Technology, Operative frequencies, Receiver sensitivity, Output power. The set-up is designed for EM characterization of homogenous geological material as well as for reflection measurement of multilayered samples. The system exploits down range resolution with dedicated “whitening filter” post-processing.
The Oversized Cavity Theory (OCT) is a numerical technique proposed for communication satellites radiated emissions and susceptibility (RE/RS) assessment, further developed to model reverberation chambers and other quasi-closed environments. A dedicated mock up and a measurement campaign has been performed by IDS to validate the applicability of IDS-OCT to the RE/RS analysis of a satellite communication module. The mock up is an aluminum rectangular box featuring several apertures of different size and shape on its walls.
MesEq is a Measurement Station dedicated to the measurement of the outer shape of mandrels used to produce composite fuselage sections. It is based on a set of laser point and laser scan, fixed in predefined positions through INVAR supports so that this laser array can acquire mandrel surface shape and step/gap between sectors. MesEq allows also to acquire proximity sensors and load cells installed in critical points inside mandrel structure (tens of proximity sensors and load cells in different critical positions inside the mandrel are acquired through big connection box and displayed real-time).
Satellite Ion thrusters generate a localized plasma flow in the surrounding of the satellite. Unwanted interactions between the plasma plume and the downlink signal might occur. To assess the impact of these interactions on satellite downlinks, IDS has designed and tested a customized system to be installed in a vacuum chamber. The system proved to be effective in detecting plasma induced modulation.
