RE/RS Modeling with Oversized Cavity Theory

The Oversized Cavity Theory tool, integrated in ADF, is suitable to calculate field/power distribution inside the communications module of modern satellites, in the high frequency region, where standard numerical methods fail due to the enormous computational effort which is required.

OCT method is far different from any other classical methods typically used in electromagnetic simulation (MoM, FEM, FDTD, etc…); while those techniques require a detailed geometrical description of the device to be simulated and additional information such as boundary conditions, material description, etc, the OCT procedure being based on a power balance approach and thanks to its statistical approach only needs a “system level” description.

Therefore one of the main advantages of the OCT is that it doesn’t require the detailed description of the cavities and of the devices placed into it but only calls for a few defining parameters (e.g. cavity volume and surface area, wall conductivity, apertures, incident power, power radiated or received by internal devices, etc...).

In matter of seconds; OCT tool calculates:

  • E-Field level calculation inside each satellite cavity, due to the internal equipment and apertures excited by external antennas;
  • Interference margin for each device located in the satellite.
