28th October 2015, Ottawa Canada. IDS North America Ltd. (IDS NA), a wholly owned subsidiary of IDS Ingegneria Dei Sistemi S.p.A. has been contracted to provide support services and an update to its Ubimex AMHS and Spatia Dynamic AIM systems that are installed in the Dominican Republic.

The support contract between IDS NA and IDAC is designed to provide an enhancement to:

  • the existing Ubimex AMHS/AFTN system to provide full P3 interoperability with 3rd party systems (i.e. ATM);
  • as well as to enhance the existing Spatia AIM platform to the latest version which is currently in operations at both DC-ANSP (Curacao) and TTCAA (Trinidad & Tobago), as well as other IDS sites throughout the world.

The importance of this project cannot be understated as the Dominican Republic will now have the capability to participate in collaboration initiatives within the NACC and CAR/SAM regions as well as contingency planning with other partners who have already installed Spatia.

Furthermore, IDS NA has also participated in two ICAO NACC Regional Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM) Go-Team workshops; first in Port of Spain, Trinidad and the second at Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. During each of these workshops IDS presented its ATFM solution for the Aircraft Situation Display (ASD), Airspace Coordination (AC), and Collaborative Decision Making (CDM) Shared Board. Spatia provides foundational data for ATFM by allowing the system direct access to its static aeronautical database (e.g. routes, fixes, etc.) and dynamic aeronautical database (NOTAM, Weather and FPLs). These core capabilities which will be provided by the Spatia implementation will allow the Dominican Republic to easily progress to have ATFM software in the near future.

“We are very excited to continue our long standing relationship with IDAC as well as assist our partners to be able to meet their objectives of sharing data, creating a seamless airspace, improving coordination, and enhancing capacity while improving safety within its airspace and the region” said Dario Rossilli, Chief Executive Officer of IDS NA.

“In recent years the Dominican Republic has experienced and will continue to experience high levels of growth in commercial and private air traffic which requires us to take immediate actions to improve data management and operations. The IDS NA solutions will allow us to meet the upcoming needs of AIS-to-AIM, Contingency operations and Air Traffic Flow Management and it is important for us to obtain these capabilities as soon as possible” said IDAC Director General Dr. Alejandro Herrera.

IDS NA and IDAC have been working together since 2009 and implemented the first AMHS-AMHS connection in the Caribbean.
