25th November 2015, Minas Gerais Brazil.
Less than 48 hours after the recent events at the Samarco mine in Brazil, an IBIS-FM radar was already scanning and providing real-time high resolution information on the tailings facilities at the mine site. A second unit is being commissioned as we speak.
IDS Brazil and IDS Italy set up a crisis unit providing 24/7 high qualified assistance and support in radar data analysis and interpretation to Samarco personnel in order to identify potential stability threats.
Long distance capabilities and high resolution allow a single IBIS installation to cover multiple dam embankments at once. The unique IBIS capability to detect very slow displacements is a key requirement for the early identification of potentially unstable areas.
IBIS-FM is already in use monitoring tailings dams at other mines around the world
